Namaka Creek is running again!
First report – 9 AM, 1-29-2014
I woke up this morning to the sound of heavy rain and the rushing music of our seasonal creek, Namaka, named after the Hawaiian Goddess of Oceans and Water. This is the first time since March 2013 that Namaka Creek is running again.
And what a spectacle it is. Check it out…

And the flood is far from over. Heavy rain is continuing. Here’s a view from our front door and from my office. These pics were of the sheets of rain coming down from the roof were taken just moments ago – at 12:15 PM.

Here are also some other still shots…

FIRST FLOOD OF 2014: PART 2 – 1PM
By early afternoon, we had a brief respite from the heavy rain that’s been spinning around and around our islands for the last three days (see above weather maps). Even the sun showed up briefly. I used the chance to go down to the gulch and update our First Flood of 2014 report. Little did I know that Elizabeth would also join me there some 15 mins later.
Here’s my second report, along with a fresh set of still shots. Witness the disappearance of our footbridge. Within just five minutes it was engulfed and swallowed up by the rising creek.
Also see what happened when Elizabeth and I met by chance down in the gulch. Having been cut off from each other by the rising creek, I had to climb the hill and come down the other side to join her.
