GONE SAILIN’

Sails 2-07-14Gone Sailin'

Some people hang a “GONE FISHIN'” shingle when they want to get away from it all. Elizabeth and me? We go SAILIN’. Wonderful therapy. Forget the world-wide-web. In Hawaii, WWW stands for Wind-Waves-Whales.

We saw tons of whales. Who weighed tons. Each. They were breaching and frolicking around us most of the time like little giant children (an oxymoron, I know ūüôā ). We felt privileged they allowed us into their blue playground.

Our sailing afternoon was thoroughly relaxing. How relaxing?¬†Take a look at that woman stretched out on her back on the ropes at Elizabeth’s feet in the above picture. That’s how laid back our entire sailing trip was (by contrast to a more sporting sailing on “America II” last summer – see “Albert and Victoria Reunited on America II“). ¬†Some¬†18-knots breezes from the¬†¬†north with partially overcast skies made a perfect day for sailing.

We boarded the “Queen’s Treasure” ¬†a little after the noon hour¬†by wading through the waves on Kaanapali Beach on west Maui. The 65-foot catamaran is relatively new. It was built and christened in St Croix (the Caribbean) in April 2011. ¬†It sailed from there in June 2011, went through Panama Canal, and arrived in Maui on July 13, 2011.

We returned to the beach around 3:30 PM. Elizabeth and I then drove to Lahaina to do some shopping. We returned to Kaanapali Beach for a sunset dinner at Hula Grill.
