DAY 1, MAY 25: A BEAUTIFUL THURSDAY AFTERNOON IN HYDE PARK
Just a quick note to let you all know that we have just arrived in London. Long flight (10 hrs), followed by 3 hours of “processing” and ground transportation. But all is well that ends well.
Our hotel is in Mayfair, so we can walk almost anywhere that’s of interest to us in the West End of London. We have a view of the Buckingham Palace gardens and of the Big Ben (British Parliament clock) from our room, among some prominent London skyline features.
The weather is unseasonably warm (26C – 79F) so we quickly changed into shorts before going for a a walk through Hyde Park. We were not alone, as you can see from these photos. Thousands of Londoners were soaking in the sun and getting an early start on a weekend.
And the London pubs were also overflowing till late in the evening. Quenching the thirst with a pint or 3 on a warm day is another way of kicking off a weekend in Britain.
All this reminded us of a similarly unseasonably warm weather when we were here in early October 2011 (see York: First Ceremony, Crown Chakra, 6th Ray Souls (Oct 1, 2011).
