DAY 13, JUNE 6: STAYING AT ROMANTIC VIENNESE COUNTRY INN, FIRST CHALLENGING DRIVE TO CITY CENTER

From Vienna, Austria

OUR VIENNA HOTEL: A TYPICAL OLD-FASHIONED COUNTRY INN (Landhaus in German)

Delightful!

What a beautiful setting we woke up to at our hotel this morning. Take a look at the scene outside our window. The place we are staying at is a typical European country inn. But with modern appliances including the WiFi. And it is a walking distance from my family’s home. So it is perfect for our purposes.

OUR FIRST DRIVE INTO AND OUT OF VIENNA CITY CENTER: NAVIGATIONAL CHALLENGE, BUT FUN OVERALL

Driving in Vienna was an adventure (one of many, as we were do discover over the next 6 days).

Even though we had a map, and my daughter pointed out on it which way we should drive from our country inn in the northern suburb of Vienna into the city center, we still had to fly mostly by the seat of our pants and instinct.

The main reason was that the neighborhood where our inn is was beyond the map boundaries. The second reason, Elizabeth did not bring her reading glasses. So I had to basically drive by instinct.

Which we had done many times in other European cities. But this Vienna ride was particularly challenging. Because the streets were twisty and hilly and kept changing their names all the time even though one was driving in the same direction.

Anyway, all is well that ends well. We did conclude all our errands in the city center. And by virtue of the fact that you are reading this line, it means we did make it back home, too. 🙂

“It’s okay,” I said to Elizabeth (and later also to my daughter). “We’ll get this… after the first 200 tries.” 🙂

In late afternoon, my bag also arrived from Madrid. So I can now finally change my clothes.

Things are looking up in Vienna even if a thunderstorm is threatening this evening. 🙂

So here are now our first pictures from downtown Vienna.
